I was standing in front of the bedroom mirror at the guest house in Bodhgaya–the place in northern India where the Buddha attained enlightenment–watching the thoughts go through my mind:
What am I doing? Why have I let myself get so out of shape? Is my life a reflection of what is important to me? Who am I?
When I made the decision to go to India to study with my teacher, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, I didn’t realize the impact it would have. I thought I would go to the monastery, meditate, spend time with my friends, and enjoy a first-time adventure in India.
Little did I know how much this trip would transform me.
The places we travel to change us–especially when we travel abroad. We are exposed to new ways of thinking and being in the world. As adults, we rarely have the opportunity to experience something completely fresh. We get bogged down in the monotony of our daily lives and often find ourselves stuck in a rut.
India allowed me to reconnect with what is truly important to me–wellness. What I realized is that wellness is beyond just physical health. Wellness naturally arises when we live in alignment with what is important to us. The physical body is the vehicle that allows us to express ourselves to the world. Everything that we do has an impact on our wellness, including our relationships, the food we eat, our physical activity, how we engage with the environment, and our mindset.
Although my trip to India was only three weeks long, it ignited a deep transformation. In the nine years following that trip, I received my second master’s degree (M.A. Integrative Health and Well-Being Coaching), lost 80 pounds, left my corporate job of 21 years, started my own business, and created the life of my dreams. This is wellness for me.
I am thrilled to be a part of the extraordinary Journey Into Himalayan Wellness program with Sacred Path. This trip represents a holistic view of wellness in which participants will engage in a transformative, educational experience of Nepali culture, spirituality, cuisine, landscape, and medicine. As the featured wellness expert on this trip, I will provide group instruction in meditation, mindful movement, and healthy eating habits, as well as help create a supportive environment for us to grow together. Additionally, I will provide one-on-one interviews to help you get as much out of the trip as possible.
This won’t be just a trip. It will be a life-changer. Join me on a transformative journey to Nepal!
